Europe Science and Fun Day (European Researchers’ Night), which is celebrated on the last Friday of September each year within the scope of European Union’s Horizon 2020 program, was conducted at ODTÜ on September 30, 2016.
The event, which ODTÜ has been rendered eligible to organize for 2 consecutive years, took place in 250 cities of 25 countries across Europe this year.
During the event which was organized with the slogan “The Household State of Science”, the aim was to have the visitors explore the science of daily life in an entertaining way. Approximately 15,000 people comprising individual visitors and students from 128 schools located in various districts of and outside Ankara took part in the event.
27 units (Graduate Schools/Departments/Centers/Student Societies) from our 3 campuses, 11 external stakeholders and 370 volunteers provided support to the event with 62 stands.
In the first part, which started at 1 p.m., researchers busy working on their experiments and research met with visitors at the venue of the event that was created by combining two indoor tennis courts and consisted of a living room, kitchen, bathroom, garrage and garden.
In the second part of Europe Science and Fun Day, which was after 7 p.m., following ‘pizza with researchers’ and the Dance Society’s show, the chat sessions titled ‘Yesterday's, Today’s and Tomorrow’s Technology’ by Prof. Dr. Eres Söylemez and ‘Becoming a Scientist’ by Prof. Dr. Meryem Beklioğlu took place. Europe Science and Fun Day ended with the Soul Project Concert that lasted until 11:30 p.m.
Europe Science and Fun Day 2017 will be celebrated on September 29.
